On the night of May 17th, 2017, singer Chris Cornell died from what police determined was a suicide.

Cornell, aged 52, was the lead singer of the popular grunge rock bands Soundgarden and Audioslave. Known for hits such as “Black Hole Sun,” “Spoonman,” and “Like a Stone,” Cornell was one of the most respected rock singers of his time, with a successful career spanning the 1990’s and 2000’s.

In his personal life, Chris Cornell had a history of drug addiction and depression. Cornell battled these illnesses for much of his career, with multiple trips to rehab. His death is a tragic loss to the music community, and serves an important reminder about the seriousness of mental illness.
