Jazz lovers are invited to spend a cool summer evening enjoying a free concert in the Sycamore Grove, located on the campus of St. Barnabas Hospital (Third Avenue and 182nd Street in the Bronx). The concert is scheduled for Thursday, July 27th from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. (with the event to be moved to the hospital’s auditorium in case of rain).

The 9-member ensemble, comprised of employees of Guggenheim Partners, the global investment and advisory firm, will play a range of songs made famous by the likes of such artists as Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra and Miles Davis.

The event will benefit the SBH Health System’s Health & Wellness programs, with proceeds raised from sponsors of the concert and through voluntary donations from attendees.

In 2019, the SBH Health, Wellness & Affordable Housing Project will open its doors across the street from the hospital. In addition to the construction of 314 new units of much-needed low-income housing, the project will feature the Bronx Center for Healthy Communities, a space of more than 50,000 square feet devoted to health and wellness with preventive health strategies integrated into the programming.

The complex, a partnership between SBH and L+M Development Partners, will include a health clinic, fitness center, pharmacy, healthy food café, farmer’s market, and extended-hours day care. Offered to the community will be an array of health education classes to help residents and community members quit smoking, lose weight, get exercise, and improve life skills. A rooftop farm will deliver nutritious fruits and vegetables, and cooking classes will teach residents and community health workers how to incorporate fresh produce into meals.

“We’re excited to be able to partner with Guggenheim Partners’ talented jazz ensemble in offering a pleasant summer evening to members of the community, while at the same time supporting their future health and wellness needs,” said Len Walsh, Chief Operating Operator at SBH. “These are services that continue to be in great demand in the Bronx.” The Bronx perennially finishes in 62nd and last place in New York State when it comes to health outcomes. Guggenheim Partners has over 2,300 professionals based in more than 25 offices around the world.
