Our Department of Rehabilitation Medicine offers intensive rehabilitation services to the pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Our inpatient program is focused on restoring mobility and function to patients who have experienced a trauma or an acute episode of a medical condition.
Services are provided by licensed physical and occupational therapists using state-of-the-art equipment and the most currently available treatment techniques. Several of our clinical staff members are certified in specialty areas, including pediatric intervention, hand therapy, lymphedema treatment, spinal manipulation, and joint mobilization.
The goals of our department include:
- Restoration of function
- Teaching of compensatory strategies for the management of disability
- Prevention of further limitations from the secondary effects of a trauma or medical condition
- Maximization of functional abilities to promote health and overall quality of life
Through our physical therapy services, we offer:
- Ambulation and gait training to improve walking and mobility
- Transfer training to improve movement from one surface to another
- Strengthening, endurance training, and general conditioning
- Balance training and coordination
- Pain management
- Wound care and management
- Community re-entry skills training
- Patient/client and family/caregiver education
Through our occupational therapy services, patients receive:
- Self-care skills training
- Wheelchair mobility training
- Cognitive/perceptual training to improve orientation, memory, and problem solving
- Transfer training for tub/shower and toilet
- Upper extremity coordination, strengthening and conditioning
- Pain management
- Upper extremity splinting and prosthetic training
- Community re-entry skills training
- Patient/client and family/caregiver education
