Smoking Cessation

There are more than 50 million smokers in the U.S. (about one in five). Only 3% of smokers quit on their own. Meanwhile, more than 1,200 people die daily from smoking-related diseases. This makes smoking the biggest cause of morbidity and mortality in the country.

The hospital runs a smoking cessation program that uses a combination of medications and supportive measures to help people quit smoking. This includes science-based treatments to minimize patients’ nicotine withdrawal symptoms and maximize their success in achieving either a smoking reduction or total cessation.

Patients range in age from 18 to 75 years of age. Some have a history of smoking three packs a day while others may only smoke five cigarettes a day. We see those who have never tried to stop before as well as those who have quit and slipped and are willing to try again.
