MESSAGE FROM SBH CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER
Dear Colleagues,
As we prepare to welcome in 2018, I look forward to sharing some
exciting developments at SBH. True to our mission, we continue
to strive to provide the highest quality of care to our local Bronx
community. This issue highlights some of our newest programs designed
to address our patients’ needs. Here you can learn about our new Lung
Cancer screening program, Bariatric Surgery initiative, and our newly
available 3D Mammography services.
As you know, specialized medical and surgical care is only part of the
equation for improving the health of our patients. Explore the interview
with Dr. Mark Rosing, Chairman of OB/GYN, in which he discusses
the importance and challenges of prenatal care for the women of the
SBH community and examines some new ideas intended to improve the
health and well being of our expectant mothers.
We must not only talk about healthy living with our patients, but also
partner with them on their journey. Under the guidance of Dr. Vanessa
Salcedo, hundreds of staff members have promised to avoid sugary
beverages on campus making us proud and allowing us to take the first
steps in declaring SBH a Healthy Beverage Zone institution. Dr. Salcedo
is the champion of this initiative and has already achieved great success
in educating staff and she continues to encourage them to become role
models for our patients and families.
Finally, often times we see critically ill patients who, with the help of
our amazing staff, are able to overcome incredible medical issues. These
patients frequently teach us some of life’s most valuable lessons; trauma
surgeon Dr. Gerard Baltazar introduces us to one such heroic patient.
