Letter from the Chairman

Daniel G. Murphy, MD, MBA
Chairman, Department of Emergency Medicine
Affiliated Medical Professor, CUNY School of Medicine

Welcome! to the Department of Emergency Medicine at SBH Health System.

St. Barnabas Hospital, which is a part of SBH Health System, is a 461-bed, not-for-profit, nonsectarian, acute care community hospital. SBH is also a NY State-designated Stroke Center, AIDS Center and Trauma Center.

We are dedicated to serving our diverse and dynamic Bronx community. Our residency program is well known for graduating excellent emergency physicians who have experienced a very wide range of illness and injury during their 4 years of training.

I have been at SBH since July of 2014 and bring extensive experience in clinical operations, management and research. I graduated from the Cook County EM Residency Program and have worked in academic, non-academic, urban and suburban settings. My perspective is broad.

We have a marvelous faculty and our ultrasound, research, toxicology and simulation education programs are robust and growing stronger as our exclusive new academic relationship with the CUNY School of Medicine matures.

Our campus is beautiful and our location enables a direct commute from Manhattan, Queens, New Jersey, Long Island, Westchester, Connecticut and the Hudson Valley. We are located on the southwest corner of the renowned Arthur Avenue restaurant district. Fordham University, the New York Botanical Garden and the Bronx Zoo are just minutes away.

We look forward to meeting you!
