Program Director’s Welcome

Written by kcho1

Letter from the Program Director

Welcome. Thank you for your interest in the Emergency Medicine Residency at St. Barnabas Hospital. As an SBHEM graduate myself, it is my honor to serve as the program director.

Our residency is a four-year ACGME-accredited Emergency Medicine program that faithfully serves a vibrant Bronx community. We have strong department divisions in Toxicology, Ultrasound, Simulation, and Pediatrics. Training in NYC is fantastic and we take full advantage of available resources with rotations at the New York Poison Center, EMS training with FDNY, and pediatric training at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore. We have a dedicated and nurturing faculty that is highly invested in the residency program. Additionally, our department supports growing programs in wellness, community outreach, and research.

The emergency medicine residency is a fundamental pillar of the hospital and has been educating residents since 1991. With over 500 alumni, our graduates are well represented in leadership, community, and academic positions throughout the country. Our residency is built on a fast-paced, high-volume, and high-acuity clinical environment in the Bronx. With the support of our 30 core faculty, our didactic curriculum is challenging, interactive, and constantly evolving to meet the needs of modern emergency medicine residents. We have multiple subspecialty tracks, allowing residents to further explore a niche interest in emergency medicine and prepare our residents as leaders in emergency medicine and competitive fellowship applicants. Our tracks include a wide spectrum of interests including ultrasound, critical care, medical education, and more.

We proudly maintain our osteopathic recognition with the ACGME. The St Barnabas Emergency Medicine Program is a dynamic training program that will prepare you to Dr. Scott Leuchten, Vice Chair Education, SBH Department of Emergency Medicineexcel in a career in Emergency Medicine. I am immensely proud of the outstanding quality of our graduates. Thank you for your interest.

Sincerely,

Dr. Scott Leuchten, M.D.
Program Director
Emergency Medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital
