Thank you for your interest, we are very excited for you to explore and learn about Pharmacy Residency programs at SBH Health System. We are a large urban hospital with an annual census of nearly 100, 000 Emergency room patient visits, a 422-bed, not-for-profit, nonsectarian, acute care community hospital and Level 2 Trauma Center authorized to treat the most critically ill and severely injured patients. As a New York State-designated Stroke Center and State-designated AIDS Center, we provide access to much-needed services in our community.
SBH is proud to be a teaching hospital for medical students and residents on their way to becoming doctors. You’ll see the very best students from CUNY School of Medicine, New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Our location is ideal. SBH is located in an area that allows exposure to a dynamic population in need of medical care, while also providing access to truly ill patients with multiple disease states. Geographically, we are located in the Belmont section of the Bronx, at the end of the historic Arthur Avenue (the real little Italy of New York), near both the Bronx Zoo and the Bronx Botanical Gardens, and a quick train ride to downtown Manhattan. Additionally, the cultural and social benefits of the Bronx and the rest of NYC are all a short distance away. Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and the suburbs of NYC are all readily accessible through public transportation and have an inexhaustible array of activities to satisfy whatever you enjoy.
As a new program director who is PGY1 and PGY2 trained, with more than 15 years of experience as a Clinical Pharmacist and pharmacy student preceptor, I am passionate to teach pharmacy residents Clinical Pharmacy in hopes of mentoring future Clinical Pharmacy specialists. My vision, goals/objectives are to teach pharmacy residents how to be directly involved in patient care while learning complex diseases states, offering the best treatment options, minimizing unnecessary medications and improving patient outcomes and patient satisfaction. We started a PGY1 program at SBH in order to help prepare Doctor of Pharmacy graduates the additional knowledge required to practice as a generalist in Clinical Pharmacy. In order to further advance clinical Pharmacist training among the rapid advances in medicine, healthcare, and the increasing complexity of today’s drug regimens, Clinical Pharmacist need to specialize in a particular area of medicine. This has fueled my interest to offer additional specialty PGY2 residency training programs in infectious diseases and critical care to PGY1 trained clinical pharmacist starting in 2019-2020.
We invite you to spend time exploring our program, reach out to us if have any additional questions, we will be happy to work with you!
