Dr. David A. Perlstein, Chief Medical Officer at SBH Health System in the Bronx (St. Barnabas Hospital) has been named Executive Vice President.

“Dr. Perlstein is a highly experienced and well respected leader who has played a major role in enhancing and shaping the culture and reputation of the medical staff over the years he’s been here,” said Dr. Scott Cooper, President and Chief Executive Officer, SBH Health System. “We believe that with him and the other additions we have recently made to our medical leadership we are well poised to meet the changes that the hospital system and medical community will face in the years ahead.”

Dr. Perlstein was named to the position of Chief Medical Officer last year. He came to St. Barnabas Hospital in 1999 as Director of Ambulatory Pediatrics and Vice Chairman. He received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati and completed an internship and residency in pediatrics at The New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center. After serving an additional year as chief pediatric resident, he worked as a pediatrician in private practice.

Dr. Perlstein has received numerous medical student teaching awards and is on the faculty at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He has also served on several New York City Department of Health sub-committees focused on immunization practices, is a member of the AHA Committee on Clinical Leadership, and serves as an abstract reviewer for the Pediatric Academic Society’s annual meeting.

While managing the hospital’s clinical operations, quality programs and medical staff, he remains clinically active.

Since 2014, SBH Health System has also named Dr. Ridwan Shabsigh, Dr. Edward Telzak, Dr. Daniel Murphy and Dr. Lizica Troneci, respectively, as its new Chairs of Surgery, Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Psychiatry.
