I am very pleased to learn of your interest in SBH Health System. Our training program is fully ACGME-accredited and has a long history of training extremely skilled and empathic internal medicine physicians. We are fully committed to maintaining this high level of excellence in training for future generations of primary care internists, hospitalists and subspecialists.
Our large training program offers exposure to a culturally and medically diverse patient population. Situated on a large campus in the middle of a vibrant urban community, SBH offers medical residents broad exposure to a range of illnesses and pathologies in diverse clinical settings: an active inpatient medical service run by full-time hospitalists; a large medical ICU staffed by full-time intensivists; the complete range of medical subspecialty inpatient and outpatient consultative services; and active and growing comprehensive and integrated primary care services across multiple practice sites with numerous specialized programs including, but not limited to, geriatrics, congestive heart failure, asthma, and diabetes.
SBH is the primary teaching hospital of the new City University of New York (CUNY) School of Medicine, located on a beautiful campus in West Harlem. Our faculty and residents are deeply engaged in the medical education of these students who do most of their clinical rotations at SBH. To support the education for all of our medical students we have developed increasingly robust and engaging programs, both on the CUNY School of Medicine and at SBH.
SBH graduates have been extremely successful upon completion of their residency program by obtaining distinguished fellowships and becoming attending physicians at prestigious hospitals throughout New York and the entire country. It is noteworthy that a number of our most talented residents have elected to remain within the SBH Health System, as both primary care physicians and hospitalists.
This is an exciting stage in your training and career and a very exciting and dynamic time in the life of SBH Health System. We are confident that our programs will prepare you for the future of medicine and hope it will be a good fit for your continued education and development.

Welcome to SBH Internal Medicine Residency website. SBH is an excellent place to train for internal medicine (just ask our residents!). Every week we see uncommon variations of common diseases and common presentation of unusual diseases. Residents are first line in the care of our patients and therefore have an ability to become comfortable in treating the most complex patients both in the clinic and in the inpatient setting. Residents graduating from our program obtain excellent positions in both the inpatient and outpatient setting all over the United States, many stay at SBH, and others obtain very prestigious fellowship positions.
I encourage you to navigate our website to get a better flavor for our program. As interviews continue to be remote, we will have our multicultural residents join you, in your virtual space, to give their perspective on our program and to answer any questions you might have. We also have included videos on different aspects of our program. We hope that this will be informative and be able to give you a taste of who we are.
I look forward in virtually meeting you and wish all of you much success in finding the program that best suits your needs and interest.
