As a Chief Information and Digital Strategy officer, he is involved in SBH Health System digital transformation journey by upgrading the health systems technical, medical devices & telecom infrastructure, information security; ensuring clinical & resource planning information systems and patient management devices are well integrated into the enterprise electronic health records for the future, care & data innovations and implementing patient facing applications.

Dr. Barmecha is a member of the senior executive team of the COVID-19 pandemic command center at SBHHS. He has been instrumental in providing technology, telecommunication, biomedical engineering, clinical, public health knowledge and resources for the emergency response, surge capacity, COVID vaccination and reopening strategies of the health system. During the early part of the COVID-19 pandemic, he contributed in the publication of “Telehealth Implementation Playbook” for the American Medical Association and “Telemedicine for the physicians” for the American College of Physicians. As a chairperson of the board of directors, he provides clinical leadership to the Bronx Regional Health Information Exchange (RHIO) & Bronx Regional Informatics Center. He is the founding executive board member of NODE.Health – network of evidence in Digital Medicine, also serves on the healthcare advisory board for Verizon 5G and Salesforce.

Dr. Barmecha also serves as a chair of the Digital and Telehealth Advisory Board at the American College of Physicians, New York eHealth Collaborative’s Physician Advisory Group. He is the Immediate Past President of the NY State Chapter and fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Senior Fellow of the Society of Hospital Medicine.

He began his clinical and healthcare leadership career at SBHHS as Chief Medical Resident after completing three years in the Internal Medicine Residency Program. Following his chief medical residency, he earned his MPH degree in Health Management and Policy at New York Medical College, while continuing to provide patient care and medical education services as faculty in the Department of Medicine at SBHHS.
