What is Hepatitis C?Hepatitis C is a liver disease that spreads through contact with infected blood. You can get it from sharing needles, blood transfusions before 1991, or if you were born between 1945 and 1965. About 3.5 million people in the U.S. have Hepatitis C, but many don’t know they have it. If you were born between 1945 and 1965, doctors recommend getting a one-time blood test for Hepatitis C. People with HIV should also get tested since they can have both diseases.
