Pediatric care for your child’s whole health
You know your child’s health is about much more than how they’re feeling physically. It’s based on their social and emotional health, too. Like how they’re doing in school and how they interact with other kids. At SBH Health System, our pediatricians partner with you to care for your child’s whole health.
Our pediatric team is highly trained and highly experienced. We’re also highly committed to caring for families in the Bronx. We get kids into the office for appointments quickly. And we know our patients and families by name.
At SBH, we’ll help ensure your child gets the best possible start. And we’ll advocate with you on your child’s behalf whenever — and wherever — they need support in their health. Because we know a healthy childhood will lay the foundation for a bright future.
Our pediatric services
Our pediatricians and pediatric specialists trained at some of the most highly regarded medical schools in the country, choosing to bring that knowledge and experience to help children in the Bronx community. We also take that commitment out into the community — hosting food and clothing drives, and talking to kids in schools about the benefits of healthy eating and exercise.
As a full-service pediatric department, we care for kids in both inpatient and outpatient settings that are warm and inviting for our littlest patients.
Treatment for illnesses and injuries
If your child is sick or injured, we’ll get them into the office quickly. Fevers, scrapes, sore throats and twisted ankles — we treat them all. And, if your child needs urgent attention for a serious illness or injury, we have a pediatric emergency room to provide around-the-clock care. Our emergency room is staffed by doctors trained in providing emergency care to babies, children and adolescents.
Our team also includes specialists in Pediatric Neurology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Nephrology/Renal, Gastroenterology Development/Behavior and Genetics who care for children with conditions related to the brain and nervous system. These conditions may include seizures, headaches and developmental delays. Our neurologists are experts at diagnosing and treating these types of neurological issues in children.
Regular checkups and screenings
We’ll see your child for regular wellness checkups to ensure they’re hitting their growth and development benchmarks, and receiving the vaccines they need to keep them healthy and active. If your child needs more focused care, we have team members who specialize in a variety of areas, including cardiology, gastroenterology, genetics, asthma and allergy, and infectious disease.
We’ll connect you and your child with these specialists, but we’ll remain your child’s primary doctor — and your point person for all your questions and concerns.
Pediatric inpatient unit
Our expert pediatric hospitalists run our inpatient unit, which was designed and decorated with children in mind. Our team of highly trained doctors collaborate on your child’s care — whether they’re recovering from surgery or an injury, or receiving treatment for an illness like pneumonia.
At SBH Health System, we prioritize our patients and their families, offering not only medical care but also support in areas like social and behavioral health.
Advanced neonatal care
We have a Level IIIA nursery and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) where our specialists can pay close attention to your littlest family member. Because we have advanced capabilities, we can care for very small or very sick newborn babies.
Our team includes neonatologists, neonatal nurses and respiratory therapists, all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so you and your child can go home as soon as possible.
Adolescent health services
When children reach adolescence, they face new life changes and challenges. We’re here to help them navigate the transition from childhood to adolescence. We offer programs that help them learn healthy eating and exercise habits, as well as overcome negative body image perceptions. We can help kids and teens who have trouble sleeping — evaluating and treating them for a variety of conditions, such as sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome.
We can also help evaluate, counsel and treat teenagers who have difficulties related to behavior or learning. We can help with areas including:
- Learning disorders, such as dyslexia
- Behavioral disorders, such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), anxiety disorders and depression
- Habit disorders, such as nail biting, hair pulling and tics
- Developmental disorders, such as autism, and visual and hearing impairment</li.
- Conditions that impact development, such as epilepsy, genetic disorders, asthma and cancer
Pediatric Behavioral Services
Our team of experienced general pediatricians provides evaluations for behavioral and developmental concerns, including ADHD and some cases of autism.
We collaborate closely with parents to review and interpret Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), offering guidance and insights to help families better understand and support their child’s unique needs. We proudly care for patients from birth through 21 years of age.
